How do I calculate the finished size of a cross stitch?

Divide the number of stitches by the fabric count. A design 140 stitches wide on 14-count Aida is 140 ÷ 14 = 10 inches wide. For centimetres, multiply the inches by 2.54.

How much fabric should I cut?

Add a margin on every side for framing and hooping — 3 inches (7.5 cm) is standard, so add 6 inches to each dimension. Use 4 inches per side if the piece will be stretched over a large frame.

What about evenweave or linen?

On 28-count evenweave or linen you usually stitch over two threads, which gives 14 stitches per inch — the same size as 14-count Aida. On 32-count over two, it is 16 stitches per inch.
